Flight Attendant Spittin'

I found this over at Play Cloths blog. As many flights on Southwest that I've been on in the past year flying back and forth from the Matrix, I have yet to run into this guy. You would think some random bald guy rappin' on an airplane would be wack, but he's not too shabby.

The Future Might Be Coming Sooner Than You Thought..

Students from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette have designed a concept for an elevated and automated railway system that intends to do away with the congestions on roads. The ambition public transport system foreseeing driverless compartments zipping over the city streets could be a transportation mode of the future, if the project gets the required funding to be build into a working prototype anytime soon.
How it would functions
The intention for a better transport system has brought about this conceptual idea, which visions smaller rail cars attached from the side to the elevated rail track suspending up and down with a mechanical arm to let passengers get on and off comfortably. To keep the system light yet rigid, the designer would use possible aspects of the aviation and aerospace industries. Keeping it easy on mobility would mean lesser energy required to move it and fewer infrastructures to build it. With green vision and an eye to easy public transportation, we have a thumbs up to the concept.

Mack Daddy's

What were they thinking? This "futuristic" look seems to be a cheap combination of the L’incognito's Pharrell wore in the Everybody Nose Remix, and cyclops from X-Men. I don't know about you, but I think these glasses are hilarious. The name just completes it. Check it out..

MACKDADDY offer their own take on new-age futuristic with their Shades “Line” sunglasses. The wide-frame boasts a single lens in two different colors. The side features MACKDADDY branding. Jordi Laforge fans get on this quick… Available

Lamborghini Insecta Concept

"When the doors OPEN UP, they OPEN UP" Lol. Just a little insider humor. Sorry about that.
Okay, I actually wanted to post this yesterday but decided to wait until today. Well it's 12:24 and I decided I couldn't wait any longer, this car is ridiculous! Some Jetsons type shit. I swear its only a matter of years before they start making cars like this that can fly. Yes, the doors still open up the same way which make it EVEN better. For some reason after looking at the car I thought they might change the way the doors open, but they didn't and I thank them for that. With that being said, this has to be the coolest car I've ever seen, too bad I'll probably never see it in person. Check it out..

Weekend Recap

So this weekend went by extremly fast and wasn't filled with as much excitement as past college crash weekends have been. Saturday's adventure led us to Kutztown; my most anticiapted college crash to date. Kutztown definitely had me hype because of the past pictures I saw that a couple of my good brothers Chris and BZJ posted while I was in the Matrix a.k.a Wilberforce University, but I also didn't expect the campus to be so nice. Shout out to the girls' room we stayed in with the bangin ass wall. I still don't think that there were 7 Gucci pics but its cool.
As far as the activities go, the party was wack, including the after party, but I won a camera so I guess its even. I think my luck is finally starting to turn around. LOL.

Today, I enjoyed the foreshadowing of what's to come in the summer: beautiful weather, watched Marley and Me which was good as shit, and chilled for most of the day. A while back my mom went to go see it and left the movie crying uncontrollably. I won't spoil the ending for you but its definetly worth seeing. All in all the weekend was pretty cool, besides the fact that I have to start the school week all over again and pray that the next weekend comes just as fast as this one ended.

Oh yeah, congrats to my man BZ for makin the Abakus Blog. My man stays with the cool shit!!!!

Touch Me Michael, I Drive Just for You

Although the actual look of the car recieves no interest from, the title caught my attention instantly. Besides the Speed Racer build of the car, the touch sensor and finger recognition included with many other features the car has is pretty unique. Check it out..

You love light-up cars, right? You want your car to stick-out and keep the streets bright, right? How would you like your car to be uniquely coded to open and activate based on your touch- your fingerprints and more? Ask Enache Florin to hand the plans over. Here is the Peugeot “Touch.”
Designer Enache Florin keeps your car private, maybe:

[The Peugeot Touch] has a light weight body that in some areas, like the doors, are placed touch-sensitive sensors and finger recognition. [These sensors ensure that] only the owner can use the car. Everything is opened [and activated] by touch. The lights compose symbols made out of LED’s, in this way the car has it’s own identity at night. This associates the car with its parent company, identifying it uniquely as the Peugeot Touch.
Take note: if you want to ask questions about the logistics of the “Touch,” post comments below and Mr. Florin or one of his associates would be happy to answer some way or another, I’m sure.
1. This is no inexpensive car, for sure, but once the price barrier is broken, will a car that’s gotta be programmed to it’s driver be a realistic goal?
2. How about if we take that feature and make it regular for lots of cars?
3. Speed Racer. Time-lapse photography’s gonna be hot with this one.

The Rantilla Residence by Michael Rantilla

Architect Michael Rantilla, a Senior Associate with the Freelon Group, designed this house for himself in a woodsy area south-west of Raleigh, North Carolina.
Full description after the photos….

Photos by Mark Herboth
Project Description:
The design concept of this private home literally springs upward from the pristine wooded site. Unbuildable as a spec home property, the unique form of the building is a literal response to the significant site challenges. Wedged between zoning setbacks, a stream buffer and a steep slope, the program massing was squeezed vertically into a three story scheme elevated above the uninterrupted ground plane flowing beneath. Each floor level is expressed as a discrete rectangular volume clad in a different material and spun radially from a 40 foot tall, 18 inch thick solid concrete shear wall. This articulation of the volumes creates a wide variety of habitable outdoor spaces. The lowest level ultimately spills onto a large teak deck beneath the house, which then engages the forest via a stepped concrete pyramid. Fully cantilevered stair treads project from the concrete shear wall and shift from aluminum to maple to ipe, constantly varying the sound and feel of each staircase while allowing light and views to pass through. Vertical circulation always maintains a close connection to the diagrammatic and structural centroid of the building.
As one approaches the home, an elevated driveway reaches out from the main central volume to the street. This roadside public face has little fenestration in contrast to the all-glass private side, which takes advantage of views facing the forest, the stream and diffuse northern light. All major specimen trees, primarily pine and sweetgum, were saved due to the compact vertical building footprint and lack of site re-grading. The height of the mostly transparent upper volume set within the forest canopy evokes the feeling of a treehouse, as the swaying treetops literally brush the structure. Exposed white metal deck ceilings allow both the environmental sounds of rainfall and natural daylight to permeate the house.
The materials used in construction were steel, concrete, glass, aluminum, zinc, ipe, maple and bamboo. The architect also served as the general contractor and completed the project in 11 months.

Bathroom Hooked Up

If you’re a media junkie like us, then there’s no better bathroom than the Digital Bathroom by Italian bathroom brand Ideal Standard. The high-tech concept bathroom was designed to seamlessly integrate the TV, Laptop, iPod, and other gadgets into the experience. Resulting in a design that looks like it could be straight out of Iron Man.
While details on the Digital Bathroom have yet to fully emerge, we can see that this baller baño is equipped with the following:

  • Media mirror: Likely plays television, displays weather, controls music, and controls other bathroom appliances
  • Laptop on toilet: a little ghetto but hey, it fits the theme
  • Fiber-optic ceiling lighting: designed to make baths more relaxing
    Digital scale
  • Flat screen TV: positioned in perfect view of the shower and the bathtub. (Another TV is needed directly across from the toilet)
  • Luxury shower cabin outfitted with chromotherapy elements
  • Ugly wall lighting

Maxin' And Relaxin'

Located in the heart of historic Old Montreal and facing the vibrant piers of Old Port, Scandinave Les Bains Vieux-Montréal is an urban spa whose purpose is to provide a thermal therapy experience that engages each of the body’s senses. The building, rebuilt half a century ago after extensive fire damage, has housed warehouse functions until recently when it was acquired by the new owners: the new spa is positioned at the ground/entrance level.

The formal part of the project is derived from the contact between hot and cold - and more specifically, the naturally occurring phenomena associated with these conditions - the design distills the idea of cool glacial forms and the warmness of volcanic rocks. White angular masses of glacial topography coupled with volcanic geology bespeak the duality that is central to the thermal therapeutic experience proposed by the spa. This duality is articulated through both the spaces’ forms and the selection of various materials.

Upon exiting the dressing room, the visitor is immersed in a unique environment where walls, floors and ceiling are slightly angled according to a notion of interior topography through which visitors may wander. These angles, though subtle, give bathers a perceptual difference from their everyday environs; the awareness of the corporeal relationship with their surroundings is heightened, thus grounding each visitor for that moment in time. Just as in a natural landscape, slight undulations in the ground plane create gentle slopes; depressions in the floor level generate basins of water for bathing. At particular moments, volumes emerge from the ground to sculpt interior zones for the sauna and steam bath. Uniting the main space is an undulating wood ceiling that echoes the movements of the floor: walls of white marble mosaic appear to melt at the point of contact with the warm-colored wood on the ceiling, resulting in accentuated architectural reveals. Heated, cantilevered benches made of black slate offer visitors a warm place to pause in between a hot and cold bathing cycle.

Stay Cool..

At first, I wanted this post to be something that everybody would like, something that would appeal to whoever read it. But after some much needed insight from my good friend Bianca, I realized that this blog and the posts that follow this, are not supposed to be what others like but are instead a tool to let others who read it get an understanding of who I really am. This blog is not something that makes me “cool” but an instrument in portraying my thoughts.

The media and America itself has instituted a need to be “cool” from a young age when brand name clothes and sneakers, flashy music videos, and million dollar mansions begin to be instilled in our minds. And for that reason our future is essentially built around the success of famous people we see on t.v., which causes innovation to cease as others become content on imitating ideas that previously existed. It would be ridiculous to say that I wasn’t one of those brainwashed kids checking the on demand channel guide for the next episode of cribs, or the newest music video to see the newest car that Lil Wayne had on the Cash Money Millionaire Video. I also was at fault of wanting to be a part of the “in” crowd. But as I look back on the past I see what the “cool” has influenced me and so many others. Now instead of first observing a new concept, people tend to bash it and criticize it before they actually understand it.

So when new ideas are introduced people feel the need to criticize it because it’s not the “cool” they’re familiar with. I say FUCK THAT! I believe that the the "cool" should be defined as an innovator or an individual that has a tendency to stay one step ahead of the current trend. In a sense this would make Pharrell, Kanye West, Kid Cudi and the Clipse among the coolest in today’s society. All of those mentioned do things based on what they feel is cool and are not afraid of the criticism they know will inevitably follow. Kanye West for example released 808’s and Heartbreak, complete with auto-tune on almost every song, not in an effort to gain fans but to express how he felt at the time. Freely influencing others through your own perception of cool is what truly is cool. Most people are afraid to step outside of the box and become different because it isn’t normal or what they’re used to.

So thanks bink for the insight, and helping me on my way. From this point on I will no longer let others influence what I think is cool. As for the readers, stay cool. Stay cool by being you, by expressing your uniqueness and desire to stand out in a crowd at all times, and at everything you do. Not through the perceptions of others but in the unique way that you think is “cool”.
